In 2012, about twenty years and twenty books into the Bosch series, Michael Connelly gave this twenty-word description of his police detective:
Harry Bosch knows how to make every case deeply personal, giving him the internal fire that makes him absolutely relentless.
And yeah, he’s moody.
I recently ‘binge watched’ seasons one and two of the TV series based on the Bosch novels, and read a few reviews of same. Apparently season one incorporates parts of three early novels: City of Bones, Echo Park, and The Concrete Blonde. Season two ‘takes inspiration from’ Trunk Music, The Drop, and The Last Coyote. The books may be decades old, but the themes are still timely. I thoroughly enjoyed every episode.
Oh, and the guy with the odd name playing the detective with the odd name, he’s the right guy for the part.
The thing is, when it comes to moody sleuths, I thought Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch Series was a given, one of the first five or ten on anyone’s list. Apparently not. The TV series is selling books to a whole new readership.
It’s prompted me to go back for a revisit. I’ll keep you posted.
